Rebranding: BrewHaHa Brewery

BrewHaHa Brewery

BrewHaHa refers to the noisy an over-exciting reaction on something; and in this case, off course it is the excitement of beer tasting. Marius Deetlefs opened up the very first Micro Brewery in Jeffrey’s Bay and with that came a lot of experience and passion for one day making his dream a reality.

“Every beer tells a story.”
By just reading this, something inside me wanted to know more about his story all at once. Everybody find comfort in story telling and gets excited when stories are told. Off course this first made me think of my childhood and how my parents use to read me stories. An exciting feeling immediately came back to me at this very moment. Thís feeling I wanted to share with any and everyone around me. Thus, I decided to stick with this concept and make it my own.

With doing research on story telling the Khoi-san people inspired me with their techniques and ways of capturing important moments in their lives. They told their stories on the walls inside the caves where they lived - a permanent way of embracing their journeys. They made their mark.
Mark making - establish a sustainable brand!
At first I did not know where to start at all. Story telling is exciting, but how do you put it into visuals for someone to experience that same feeling. So I started thinking back to my roots and how I grew from then to now. I felt informed; the stories was enriching and contributing to what I  know today. That must have been the same for them? Marius may felt mixed emotions throughout the whole process of starting this new business, but still he had a goal, because he was truly inspired by something in his past. That made him who he is today and gave him the opportunities which he is embracing today.
Marks doesn’t mean much if it can not be recognised. Each mark must symbolise or refer to something.

BrewHaHa's story is created by the owners. They are the writers of this story:
Marius Deetlefs;Francois Labuschagne; Matthys Gerber
From here on forward the journey of this mark-making project began!

Looking at their existing brand, it was a kind of rustic, arty feel, but also a type of  “stamp”-effect to create a rough texture on their designs. Thís went well with the look and feel I got from the Khoi-san tribes. Therefor I decided to create my own modern story of BrewHaHa, but with the same traditional “stamps” or mark-textures inspired by the Khoi-san.
The brand can categorise their events or functions by logo - either it be for a formal event, family gathering or a business meeting.
Each owner with their personalised business card.
With the sip of each beer, a story is also told. The labels captures the identity of each flavour and serves as background story for BrewHaHa's origin.
For them it's all about family, friends, the environment and good company. Every visit should be festive!
